Surroundings and nature

Besides the city centre, the Nijmegen area has a lot more to offer.
For example, the most beautiful natural areas with the perfect hiking trails.

Ooijpolder
It is a beautiful area in the floodplains of the River Waal. It is an important part of
National Landscape The Gelderse Poort and is characterised by a vast polder landscape
with a village or farm here and there. Walk through the beautiful river nature and enjoy the flora and
fauna. There is also a large hiking area with a beautiful watchtower. If you walk to the West
you suddenly find yourself on the lively Waalkade in Nijmegen.

Heumensoord
500 hectares of peace and space. And so close to the city. Enjoy the stately beech avenues,
flowering rhododendrons and open heathlands. Along the way, you will discover small and big surprises,
from beautiful nests of the red ants to the old Roman watchtower. Take a quiet
Take a quiet forest walk, grab a bike or go for a run. In short, a lovely place to
escape the hustle and bustle of the city.

Mookerheide
About a ten-minute drive from Nijmegen, you will find the Mookerheide. A nature reserve with
vast heathlands, beautiful forests and a rich history. The ideal place to walk and
enjoy the peace and quiet. A beautiful area that is well worth a visit.

Overasseltse en Hatertse Vennen
The Overasseltse and Hatertse Vennen is a beautiful area with woods, vast heathlands and you
guess what... fens! Apart from roe deer, rabbits, squirrels and foxes, badgers and the
rare garlic toad. This area, southwest of Nijmegen, was once created by the Waal and
the Meuse. By now, both rivers are far away from here, but because of the river clay they
have left behind, you can now enjoy the more than 20 fens.

Bike rental

Hire a bike and explore Nijmegen and its surroundings. Plenty of choice. Nature, culture, history: all this
and more within cycling distance. Excellent cycle routes, cycle junctions, fast cycle paths: all you have to
do is pedal a little, Nijmegen and its surroundings will do the rest. At our colleagues at
Hotel Credible, it is possible to rent bicycles (www.in-credible.nl).

It is possible to park your (own) bikes in the guarded bicycle shed 'Plein 44'. There is a
possibility to charge your electric bicycles.

Cycling routes

Not only is it easy to walk through the city centre and nature, the Nijmegen area
also has several cycling routes to explore all the beautiful spots. Via the website of Into

The Power of Craft

De Hemel

Less than 3 minutes' walk from the hotel you will find De Hemel in the centre of Nijmegen. De Hemel is located in the Commanderie van St. Jan, a medieval monastery building in the centre of Nijmegen. Experience everything our building has to offer in a unique setting, under the heavy beamed ceiling or on Nijmegen's most beautiful terrace. Taste, enjoy, experience: Burgundian cuisine, home-brewed beers, distillates and home-roasted coffee! A unique place where there is a lot of laughter and people enjoy life!

MuZIEum

Step into one of the most fun museums in the Netherlands. Because the muZIEum is not just any museum, but a museum of experience where you experience what it is like to be blind or visually impaired for a short while. We do this every day with an enthusiastic team that passionately spreads the muZIEum message. Our focus is always the personal encounter: a job for some, an experience for others. In pitch darkness, visitors trust their expert guide and discover what is possible when they cannot see.
